Literature Text
You said you had too many secrets
That this was one more complication
A line in a book filled with the
Blackest inks and darkest phrases
But I know I am good for you.
Its alright. Thus is the gap between fact
And fiction, fire and fate; words and
Worlds we cannot reconcile, but cannot leave,
Neglecting the brush of skin
On skin, because fingers are fingers
And touch does not lie
And that scares us both.
Your smirk that flicks like a switchblade
And hides that lover’s look
Behind your eyes for
Me and me alone
Because you are safe in
Rooms full of eyes and you know
That I cannot touch you there, and
These quick glances and two sentences
Of conversation a day are all
You give me to live off.
I would smash my fist through
Windowpanes, serenade you
With a voice that cracks like pavement
In sirensongs and prophecies fulfilled
Before I would let you believe that this
Has to end, here, now, while we are
Together in space, together in time
But you are half-requited and
Untouchable still.
So in my head I grab you, seize you,
Make you look at me, make you
See this etched and undeniable.
Holding on the front of your shirt and
Make your mouth meet mine, and
With all the weight of worlds and epiphany
Let our bodies tell you that this doesn’t
Have to be so difficult, complicated,
Convoluted, involved, byzantine.
Its alright.
In my head I take you
By the shoulder, feeling your bones
With my palm and stare at you,
Stare and pierce you, there penetrate you
With a gaze that tells you what
You already know but can’t own.
But I know, that I cannot
In my mind I teach you,
Reach you, with eloquent looks and
Words that are confusion alone,
That I am stumbling after you but
I am behind you, and if you turned
I would hold you close and let our
Heartbeats show why this is not so hard
With you close to me, my arms will do
The talking and with your face in my neck
You face that I love you and maybe,
Just maybe, this could work,
If you would let it.

the first time i looked into your eyes
was one year after meeting you.
my toes barely dipped into the pond
of blue before i realized there wasn't
much to swim to.
i fooled myself long ago into thinking that
if i was ever brave enough, i could plunge
into your endless depths and bathe in purity.
soak up your little-boy grins and weave laughter
with you, creating the most infinite soundtrack.
but when our irises finally connected,
i felt the make-believe ropes i had looped
through your fingers snap like convictions
too heavy to maintain.
it was the first time in a while
that i had a name for the reason
i was broken.
i shook in a rhythm

A word about haiku - MS James
A word about haiku - by Michael James
I believe there are a few basic precepts about haiku that are largely overlooked, or just flat out just not taught in most basic literary (poetic) courses. Everyone seems to know that a haiku is supposed to be written in the structure of 5-7-5 syllables per line respectively, but there is much more going on than just a simple syllable constraint. I shall attempt to give a brief overview of the main points about haiku.
First off, the 5-7-5 syllable structure most often cited as being the sole 'structural rule' of haiku is based on the original Japanese constraint. However, the Japanese language and more

Caleb slept with Jenna
I heard Josh broke up with Gwen
That Gabe is such a womanizer
And I hear Kayla is a whore
I plug my ears
Put on my Superman pajamas
And watch Mulan
None of this is going to touch me
